My internship at Northwestern Mutual gave me the opportunity to work across a wide range of creative projects including branding, social media, print design, presentation materials, illustration, and motion graphics. Collaborating with multiple advisors, firms, and marketing teams strengthened my ability to adapt quickly, communicate visually within an established brand system, and create work that felt both professional and engaging across many different mediums.

NWM Center City Location Launch

For this project, I created a promotional video for the Northwestern Mutual Philadelphia branch opening. I developed a logo animation and combined it with edited audio, videography, and motion graphics to create this final piece. This experience strengthened my skills in video editing, visual storytelling, and building branded content.

My internship experience at Northwestern Mutual gave me the opportunity to work on a wide range of creative projects day to day. Each project challenged me to think differently, adapt quickly, and create work that felt branded and clean.

  • I worked as a Graphic Design & Marketing Intern at Northwestern Mutual, collaborating within a small creative team on a wide range of branding, marketing, and communication projects. Working roughly 15 hours a week, I contributed to both independent projects and team-based creative work across multiple firms and advisors

  • Throughout the internship, I used programs including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Procreate, Flipbook, Microsoft Office, and various marketing and analytics platforms. These tools supported everything from print and presentation design to social media content, illustration, motion graphics, and marketing research.

  • My typical workflow started with team check-ins and discussions about upcoming projects, ongoing campaigns, and recent marketing efforts. I also participated in learning sessions with the lead marketer, where I gained insight into branding, audience strategy, and marketing communication. Alongside collaborative work, I managed my own creative projects independently, balancing multiple assignments and deadlines throughout the internship.

Partner Teams Logo Animations

These animations were created for multiple Northwestern Mutual teams and firms, focusing on custom logo animations and branded motion graphics designed for presentations, events, and digital communication. Using After Effects, I explored timing, transitions, typography, and movement to create visuals that felt polished, engaging, and aligned with each team’s identity while still remaining consistent within the larger Northwestern Mutual brand system.

NWMEPA 5k T-Shirt

This shirt concept was created for a Northwestern Mutual Eastern PA 5K initiative, combining athletic-inspired visuals with the company’s branding. Using bold typography, gradients, and motion-inspired dot patterns, the design was meant to feel energetic, modern, and community-driven. Although this specific project was still in development and never published at the internship, the concept was well received by the team.

NWMEPA The Breakfast Club

This logo concept was created for an internal Northwestern Mutual initiative called “The Breakfast Club.” The goal was to design something approachable, memorable, and community-focused while still feeling clean and professional. I explored multiple directions using simple breakfast-inspired iconography, bold typography, and badge-style layouts to create a friendly but polished identity system. The final concepts were well received by the team and later used as part of the initiative’s branding materials.

These capabilitiies decks were created for Northwestern Mutual advisors, firms, and offices as presentation materials used to introduce clients to their services, strengths, and overall approach. The goal was to design visually engaging layouts that could clearly communicate each team’s expertise, financial services, and brand identity while remaining professional, approachable, and easy to navigate. These pieces helped transform complex financial information into presentations that felt more personal, organized, and client-focused.

These social media campaigns were created for Northwestern Mutual across seven firms and multiple platforms, combining branded design with audience-focused communication. Alongside my day-to-day workflow, I developed graphics, organized content through social media planning systems, and worked within marketing analytics platforms to help schedule, manage, and maintain consistent digital engagement across teams.

As a final goodbye to the Northwestern Mutual marketing team, I created this illustrated piece as a personal thank-you to the people I worked alongside throughout my internship. I wanted it to feel warm, playful, and genuine while capturing the connections and memories built during my time with the team.
